COVID-19: sick leave after telephone consultation for colds
During the current wet and cold weather, many people contract a cold. But some then shy away from going to the doctor because they are worried about being infected with the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Now, however, a temporary special regulation has been introduced: At present, a sick leave by telephone is sufficient for minor respiratory diseases.
As the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV) reports in a current announcement, patients with mild diseases of the upper respiratory tract can receive a certificate of incapacity to work (AU) for a maximum of seven days after consulting their doctor over the phone. The employees do not have to go to the doctor's office for this.
The agreement is initially valid for four weeks
The National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV) and the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds agreed on this special regulation on Monday in Berlin.
According to the information, the regulation applies to people who are suffering from mild diseases of the upper respiratory tract such as a flu infection and do not have any severe symptoms or meet criteria of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for suspected infection with COVID-19.
Infection with the novel corona virus can lead to symptoms such as fever, dry cough, runny nose and fatigue, according to the RKI. Breathing problems, sore throats, headache and body aches, and chills have also been reported. Some sufferers also experience nausea and diarrhea.
People who suspect they have been infected with the new virus are asked to see a doctor only by prior appointment.
The new sick leave agreement is effective immediately, initially for four weeks. With this step, joint self-administration supports patients and doctors alike. (ad)
