With a rice cure, rice meals are on the menu every day for a certain period of time. These are enriched with fruit, vegetables, lean meat or fish, but a strict rice diet is the more violent variant, which should only last a few days and in which rice is almost exclusively eaten in large quantities.
The right rice
The right rice for a rice cure is whole rice (whole grain rice, unpolished brown rice, brown rice). The husked rice (polished rice), on the other hand, has neither silver skin nor a seedling and therefore it lacks many important minerals and trace elements. Above all, potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron content should be mentioned here. The nutritional values, measured per 100g, differ as follows:
White rice contains
- 103 milligrams of potassium,
- 6 milligrams of calcium,
- 64 milligrams of magnesium
- and 0.6 milligrams of iron.
Brown rice contains
- 150 mg potassium,
- 23 mg calcium,
- 157 mg magnesium
- and 2.6 mg iron.
In short - the full rice contains more minerals and trace elements than the white rice. In addition, the unpolished rice contains more filling fiber than the peeled rice. The high proportion of potassium helps the body to detoxify and drain. The heart and circulation are relieved at the same time. The more iron that is contained in the whole rice has a positive effect on blood formation and ensures a healthy metabolism. The thyroid also benefits, because without iron there is no thyroid hormone.
A rice cure has a draining effect above all. This has to be considered before starting. Patients suffering from chronic kidney disease should definitely refrain from the cure. If you are not sure whether the rice cure is right for you, consult your doctor. By draining the pounds also disappear - this should be considered before the start of the cure.
Since important substances are also washed out during dewatering, a strict rice diet with large portions of rice on the menu may only be carried out for three to four days and is not suitable for weak, constantly freezing people. A rice cure, however, is the gentler variant. However, the executors should not be weak, sick or underweight. Constant freezing is also a contraindication.
Areas of application
According to TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), rice draws moisture and heat from the body, which means that people who are constantly freezing should not eat rice too often. However, if the opposite is the case and those affected sweat a lot, have inflammation in the body or may experience hot flashes, as is often the case during menopause, a rice cure is highly recommended.
Furthermore, a rice cure for complaints in the gastrointestinal tract, for problems with the skin, for headaches, migraines, recurrent urinary tract infections, edema, menstrual disorders, endometriosis, cysts, fibroids, for mucilage in the respiratory tract and for overweight, a conventional or naturopathic therapy support positively.
People who have consumed too much table salt for a long time and therefore suffer from complaints such as high blood pressure, water retention, massive thirst or constant urge for fast food benefit greatly from a rice cure.
By the way - rice is gluten-free and therefore suitable for people who suffer from gluten intolerance. However, pregnant women, nursing mothers and children should definitely not take a rice cure.
A rice cure usually lasts at least four and a maximum of eight days. The best seasons for this are spring and autumn. Good condition is essential. Serious illnesses are an absolute contraindication. If an internal feeling of coldness, cold hands and feet occur during the course of treatment, this is the time to relax the "rules" and slowly eat "normal" and balanced again.
Around 150 grams of whole grain rice (dry weight) are cooked every day. The rice is washed thoroughly with hot water before use to remove contaminants. If this amount of rice is too little or too much, you are welcome to change it individually. The rice is briefly fried in a little olive oil and then poured with about 300 ml of water. Please don't forget to stir. The rice should still have a bite and should not be too sticky.
The rice portion is fortified three times a day for the first four days with sufficient fruit, cooked or raw vegetables. Please do not save. You shouldn't go hungry, you should really get full. After these "base days", animal protein is added again, in the form of lean meat and fish. However, this does not have to be the case. It is important that you feel good and have no cravings. If you are hungry in between, rice and fruit / vegetables are allowed.
If you like something sweet in the morning, instead of preparing with oil and water, rice with skimmed milk (rice milk, soy milk, almond milk), possibly mixed with water or boiled straight. Sugar is not added. It is sweetened with raisins or dried fruit.
Anyone who does not feel comfortable during the rice cure or cannot keep up the number of days should definitely stop the cure. If the "base days" are too hard, you can choose dishes that contain lean meat and fish. The rice dishes should not be boring, but varied and not too one-sided. Sufficient fluid intake in the form of still water and herbal tea is very important during the course. Coffee, black tea and alcohol are not used.
Relaxation for the intestine and pancreas
With a rice cure, the intestine is spared and the digestive system is brought back into balance. By using brown rice, the blood sugar level only increases slowly, remains constant for longer and does not fluctuate. This has a positive effect on the pancreas. The feeling of satiety lasts longer and cravings hardly ever occur.
As part of a rice cure, the rice is always cooked without salt. As an alternative to this, a wide variety of herbs can be used as seasonings. Cress and sprouts make the dishes more spicy. Always enrich the rice with a few drops of cold-pressed good oil, such as olive oil, linseed oil, sesame oil or pumpkin seed oil. You should also never go hungry during the cure. However, if this is the case, add beans, lentils or tofu to your dishes, depending on your taste.
White sugar is not used during the rice days. Alternatives are honey, maple syrup and dried fruit - but only in small quantities. Dairy products, apart from the milk for the morning milk rice, are to be deleted from the menu during this time.
In general, the rice cure should be the beginning of a healthy diet. So eating rice for days does nothing if afterwards little attention is paid to a balanced diet. A rethink towards a healthy, basic diet, adequate hydration and regular exercise is recommended in connection with the travel days.
Taking a rice cure alongside work is not that easy. Perhaps you will take a few days off to do some fresh air, exercise, and treat yourself to as much rest as you need.
As is well known, rice is a carbohydrate. Since a lot of it is eaten during the cure, this can lead to nutrient deficits. Therefore, in addition to rice, the dishes should definitely contain fruits, vegetables, meat or fish. The cure should not last longer than eight days and will be stopped immediately if you feel unwell. Furthermore, you should make sure that you only buy organic quality, since commercial rice is often contaminated with toxins such as arsenic.
Individual travel days
If you want to do something good for your body and relieve it from time to time, you can occasionally take a single day of travel. For example after a lavish weekend, after a vacation or after Christmas. Or just once a month to purify the body. Individual travel days are also suitable for people for whom a rice cure is too much or too exhausting. Combine such a detox day with lots of fresh air, relaxation exercises and delicious herbal teas - you will see that it is really good. (Sw)
