The new DGS Practice Guideline on “Cannabis in Pain Therapy” now provides guidance.

Cannabinoids are playing an increasingly important role in the pain and palliative care of seriously ill patients. However, two years after the introduction of the cannabis law, there is still often uncertainty regarding the practical application of the various cannabinoid active ingredients.

So far there have been no comprehensive recommendations for action by a specialist society in German for the therapeutic use of cannabinoids. The German Society for Pain Medicine has now taken this into its own hands with its newly published guidelines. The DGS practice guidelines take into account not only the external evidence, but also the internal evidence based on the experiences of the users and the experiences, values and attitudes of the patients. Especially for the medical use of cannabinoids, taking into account only the currently available RCT study data, it is often possible to arrive at different assessments than those reported by users in everyday care. You can find the practice guidelines here.
