Endorphin is a messenger substance that is formed in the pituitary gland, acts as a pain reliever and is released when positive experiences are made. The formation of sex hormones is also due to the endorphins. Another happiness hormone that is stimulated by sunlight is serotonin. It makes the body more relaxed, balanced and content and is also known as an activity hormone. The antagonist of serotonin, the sleep hormone melatonin, is reduced during the transition from winter to summer. We feel more awake and active again.

If a vitamin D deficiency is compensated, the mood increases. Healthy people make vitamin D primarily through the skin in sunlight. It is enough to have the hands, face and parts of arms and legs irradiated by the sun. The body uses the UVB radiation from the sun and produces vitamin D from a cholesterol in the skin that was previously modified in the liver. This is important for the bones, the immune system and the muscles. Here we are dependent on the complete color spectrum of sunlight.

Empathy and concentration through rising temperatures and more light

When the temperatures rise, people are not only in a better mood, they also become more empathetic and more lenient with others. This means that other people are not as stressed and become more empathic. Happiness is known to be contagious.
